Posted 19 Jun 2013You can choose whether the data engine caches the data or not. You can see there is an option in the advanced properties to cache data for a dataset or not. This would be used if you have multiple elements within a report that you will be using the same data for, so you'd rather not hit the database again:

BIRT also has different options when running a report. There is a runAndRender task, which does exactly that, it runs and renders as it goes through the report.
The other option is to use separate run and render tasks. This option creates a document (.rptdocument) that contains your data and design. The render task then uses this document to create your report with your data.

Posted 18 Jun 2013The BIRT version is actually 4.2.2. It can be kinda confusing, I know.
If it's a problem with exporting from your app, I'll probably need to see more of how you're exporting from it. Especially since it's working fine for you from the web viewer. Let me know.
