Hello,
Does the Actuate BIRT Commercial product replace / provide all the core report generation code, or is it a report designer layer that still builds on the same BIRT engine that you get from Eclipse.org?
I'm having a specific problem generating some large reports (using BIRT 2.6.0) that seems to be coming from inside the BIRT disk caching code, and am wondering if switching to the commercial product might have the exception fixed.
Can someone help me understand the relationship between the open source and the commercial product?
Thanks!
Boyd

Hi Boyd,
The Actuate commercial products use the same BIRT Engine and in fact use the same BIRT designs you have already created as well. However, the BIRT engine is integrated into a quite robust BIRT iServer which has been designed to scale into very large applications. It's easy enough to test by downloading the BIRT iServer Evaluation from this site. The Evaluation is restricted which means you can't have a bunch of people hitting it at once but it should show you how well it handles your report.
