This thread was started from an e-mail to support@birtondemand.com.

Aldric Writes:

After some searching, it appears that it's possible to source the data for a report design from a report document. I wanted to try this and I followed the "Leveraging the BIRT Document Data Source with onDemand" video tutorial but in my eclipse birt the datasource type "BIRT Document Data Source" is not present in the list... Any ideas?

Hello Aldric,

The Report Document Data Source is fully supported within the onDemand service. Building BIRT content that leverages this data source is a feature of the commercial BIRT designer built by Actuate. I would imagine you are using the Open Source BIRT designer to build your content currently. You can download a trial version of the commercial designer from the link below. This version will feature the Report data source you are looking for.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your answer Brian.
I downloaded Actuate BIRT designer. Then I made an rptdocument file with all data I need and used it as a single datasource in a new rpt design (located in the same folder as the rptdocument). I can run the design in BIRT designer and it works fine.
After uploading both files it happened that the rpt document could not open in BOD : "Cannot get page count. Cause: null."
If I try to open the rptdesign I get : "The design file has error and can not be run.". If I try to run it, I get "3301: Cannot get report parameters for the specified file.".
Something's probably wrong ;) Thanks for help

Can you post your rptdocument & rptdesign so I can have a look? If you are not comfortable posting them to a public forum, e-mail them to bhanely at actuate.com.

The "page count error" turns out to have been an incompatibility issue, which we've fixed. It does require the correct installation of BIRT Designer Pro, which you can fetch from here...
