I wish to use Birt On Demand with my postgresql posgis database. There is a jdbc driver for this kind of database. Have you planned to support this?

The onDemand service currently features an integrated reporting database that can be used with all your BIRT content. While this database is not currently PostgreSQL (it is MySQL), there are a number of viable ways to sync your local data to the cloud. We have prepared a data sync video tutorial to address this very need.
http://www.birt-exch...flash/sync.html
If the methods presented in the recording somehow fall short of your needs please update this thread. I will monitor it and make sure we do all we can to put your data within reach of all your BIRT content.
Thanks!

I should have noted earlier that is your database is running on a server that can be "seen" from the onDemand service (the IP and port are open for access) then we can work with you to report against your source data directly; no DB Sync required.
Let me know if you would like to work with the onDemand team to set that option up.
Thanks!

Yes, I would really appreciate not to have to sync my DB because my need is to create reports on the fly with data that have been just entered in the system. Actually, I'm testing Birt, and I don't have the skills to host Birt on my own server, that's why I'm interested in Birt OnDemand.
Postgis offers a spatial extension to postgres and we are working with geographical data. So I'm not sure that setting up Postgis as you did with MySql will be a good option. Connecting directly to my DB will be the best and the easiest I think.
The jdbc driver for postgresql is available with a BSD Licence. I think it won't be too hard to set it up as with the other driver. What do you think?
Thanks,
tom

We have the latest PostgreSQL driver deployed for use now. If you can verify the specific driver you need for your reports I can cross-reference that with what is on the server and make sure you are covered. from that point, if your DB is on a public IP & port you should be fine to build out your BIRT content using that connection info and deploy it to onDemand. I will be here to support that deployment when you are ready.

I made a test report and I have this error:
Cannot open the connection for the driver: org.eclipse.birt.report.data.oda.jdbc.
Cannot load JDBC Driver class: org.postgresql.Driver.
I'm using postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar driver available on the postgresql website.
How should I configure my report design?
Thanks

We were not running the specific version of the driver you are using. We are going to deploy the update tonight, it will be available for your use tomorrow.
provided your Database is accessible as we discussed, you should not need anything additional for your report to run.
Keep me posted after your tests tomorrow.
