Just got out of an Actuate webinar and they mentioned that you cannot deploy reports outside a firewall using iserver express? Is this true - and are there any workarounds for this?

We just started w/ iServer Express and Actuate report developer environment developing and deploying reports for our external customers - or at least we thought we were.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Al,

Thanks for your attendance at today's webinar. I was about to answer your question when the moderator of the event called "time," and stopped the questions. If I gave you the impression that iServer Express was not to be used outside the firewall, then I'm sorry I mislead you.

I think what may have occurred is that in my differentiation between iServer Express and iServer Enterprise I stated that the former was appropriate for workgroup and departmental deployments, and that iServer Enterprise was appropriate for large, outside the firewall situations. In stating that, I did not mean to exclude Express from internet deployments, I was simply trying to describe single server situations from multi-server ones that we commonly see with iServer Enterprise.

In any case, iServer Express and Enterprise, in either flavor, are a fantastic choice for posting BIRT content to the web. Further, that's what the Javascript API, available in both, is intended to simplify.

Thanks for your understanding.

Jeff
