In a few weeks we will transition the BIRT Exchange Community web site to a new base platform. New forums, new DevShare, new blogs and a new page layout should all be available soon.
All historical content will remain and be seamlessly integrated into the new site infrastructure. Things should work the same or be very similar to the functionality you have today. In other words you won’t lose anything.
Why are we doing this? Well, we want to add some new features to improve the site for knowledge gathering and enhance the functionality and features it provides to the BIRT community. This new platform will help us maintain and enhance the site much more rapidly and flexibly than our current infrastructure.
We will add a better blogging system with an aggregator that allows multiple blogs to be viewed (including external blogs). We’re improving site capabilities so our leading community members can be recognized for their valuable contributions and top informational content can be better highlighted and featured. We’ll also add an event calendar, more information about community members and projects, social networking, mailing lists, and other features that will be implemented over the next few months.
One welcome change we’re planning is to improve the site for 1st time visitors who want to get an overview of BIRT and help them get started — whether they are a developer, architect, IT/engineering manager, consultant or ISV. The new community home page will provide quick links for those who are new to BIRT and are either curious or can’t wait to dive in.
So stay tuned, we’ll let you know before things start to happen.
