This blog series takes a look back at the past week in the forums, recalling how active they were and highlights some of the questions asked that seem to frequent the forums or other interesting topics. The forums continue to be busy as we head towards the Thanksgiving(USA) holiday. I'll be absent in the forums from Wednesday evening until next Monday, so if you see a question you know the answer to, this week will definitely be a good time to step in and contribute to the community! :) Many great questions and answers are being posted every day. As always, thanks to those users who help answer questions! It is a great help to the community!
This weeks unanswered question is how to create a dynamic dataSet and chart based on a parameter. Based on parameters, the poster wants to be able to create multiple dataSets and charts to display dynamic data. If anyone has any experience with this or has any ideas, please feel free to comment in the thread. I'm sure the forum poster would be very grateful for any tips!
The second topic for this week is about setting a dynamic value for your x-axis min/max based on the data in the chart. The question is, how do you find the min and max values on the x-axis in the chart so that a dynamic value can be set for the chart's min and max x-axis value. An example is included in the thread that shows the script involved to achieve this. The AfterDataSetFilled() and BeforeGeneration() functions are used within the chart script.
The last topic I'll cover this week is creating a calendar layout with a crosstab. The poster wanted to use crosstabs to create a calendar layout within their report to sum up data for each day. They also wanted each week to be title with the week's date range. The report was to take start and end parameters to determine the range, but needed to include the entire week that the start and end dates ended in. Also, every date within the range must be represented, even if there is no data for that day. An example is included in the forum thread showing how to get started in doing this with crosstabs. There is also a link to a complete example that uses a table to do the same. Both examples use a scripted dataSet to include all of the dates in the range and either embedded tables or crosstabs to display each week.
Again, this is just a small sample of what went through the forums this past week. For more questions and answers that have been posted, check out the forums. As always, if you have a question, feel free to ask it, and if you see a question you know the answer to or have a similar experience to, feel free to post an answer or comment.
