Last week in the Forums: Integrating BIRT 3.7 with NetWeaver, Chart Data Point Label Spacing Issue, and more...

This blog series takes a look back at the past week in the forums, recalling how active they were and highlights some of the questions asked that seem to frequent the forums or other interesting topics. Happy New Year! The forums were slow to finish off the last week of 2011, but are back in full force to start the first week of 2012! Many great questions and answers are being posted every day. As always, thanks to those users who help answer questions! It is a great help to the community!

There are a couple unanswered questions from last week that I'll cover. One is passing user login info to the BIRT viewer. The poster is working with a penataho application and wants to pass their user info into BIRT through a parameter, but are running into issues. The second unanswered question from last week is regarding integrating BIRT 3.7 and NetWeaver. If anyone has any experience with passing Pentaho user info or integrating BIRT with NetWeaver, please post your solution or suggestions in the forum thread!

The next question from last week is a spacing issue for data point labels in a chart. The poster had a chart that when there was a negative bar, the data point label would overlap the x-axis. The solution given here was to go to the chart editor wizard, then to the format tab, then to the plot section, and click on the area format button at the bottom. Here you can set the bottom inset to a value that allows you to avoid the overlap.

The last topic for this week is setting a dynamic y-axis scale. The poster was wanting to have a parameter that defined a max value for the y-axis parameter, but only wanted to use this value if the value was greater than the max value in the chart. The solution to this is to use the AfterDataSetFilled function to get the maximum value, then in the beforeGeneration, compare this to the parameter value. The poster shows their final chart script in the thread.

Again, this is just a small sample of what went through the forums this past week. For more questions and answers that have been posted, check out the forums. As always, if you have a question, feel free to ask it, and if you see a question you know the answer to or have a similar experience to, feel free to post an answer or comment.
