Dynamic AJAX-based dashboards with BIRT content. Users create their own mashup dashboards in this drag-n-drop UI framework. Works with BIRT reports, Actuate iServer and Actuate Information Console.

Birt Version:-

Mashboard is a self-contained customization to Actuate Information Console that enables drag-n-drop user defined dashboard “canvases” of BIRT reports and other Actuate content.

Mashboard

The Mashboard installation instructions, configuration docs, and branding guide can be found on the BIRT-Exchange Mashboard Wiki pages.

Mashboard requires the following Actuate commercial components:

  • Information Console for web UI, JSAPI
  • iServer/iServer Express instance for integration services, security, and volume resources to store personal and global configuration files
  • Actuate BIRT Report Designer with iServer publishing feature

To try the Mashboard today, first download an evaluation of iServer Express, and an evaluation of Actuate BIRT Report Designer. Avg installation time is less than 1 hour to see BIRT dashboards!

Mashboard features include:

1)    Drag and drop dashboard assembly of predefined BIRT dashboard controls (portlets).  Mashboard fits seamlessly upon Actuate Information Console and uses its portal, security, IDAPI and JSAPI interfaces.

2)    Users can modify and save canvases, change and add portlets to a canvas, and rearrange the position of portlets in a canvas.

3)    A peek-a-boo “Dock” of drag and drop KPI’s which allows the user to create new dashboard canvases, and to define what portlets populate a given canvas.  Portlets are pre-defined BIRT reports, BIRT reportlets, and other Actuate-based content that can include Actuate BIRT Flash Objects, Interactive Viewer, BIRT tables and charts and other content such as HTML parameter requestor pages. (In the future, pre-defined canvas definitions called, “Mashpacks” can be loaded into a Mashboard.)

4)    Inter-portlet communication and awareness (change a value in one portlet, the change is reflected in another). This feature is known as PECS (Portlet Event Communication System) and is built into the Mashboard.

5)    Portlet “minimize/maximize” functionality which can hide or show the body of a portlet by clicking on the minimize/maximize icon in the portlet title bar. Minimizing conceals the portlet content without removing it from the canvas.

6)    Mashboard is easily customized, embedded and branded to adhere to an application’s look, feel and behavior.

7)    Actuate iServer based dashboard configuration files, secured using Actuate iServer security. This allows for multiple security contexts within a single mashboard project.

8)    Global Canvases. Allows for a single preconfigured canvas of portlets to be deployed to a community of users at once.

The Mashboard is supported by the Mashboard Team via the Mashboard forum on BIRT-Exchange
