Hi,
Is there any specific reason as to why the "SQL Query Builder" is only a part of the connection profile. Why is it not a part of the normal creation of data source flow? Is this feature extendible? Can we add functionality to it. Also can we re-use it in our self written UI wizard (plugin) where in we invoke/use this SQL Query Builder somewhere in our flow. Regards, Anirudh |

Anirudh,
The SQL Query Builder (SQB) is a Data Tools Platform project component integrated with BIRT. It requires the use of a DTP database connection profile. It is technically feasible to convert a BIRT JDBC data source design to a DTP database profile, so it can be used with SQB. Please go ahead and submit an enhancement request in Bugzilla, if this feature is important. You can certainly adopt the DTP SQB component directly. Here are some links to the SQB project: http://wiki.eclipse.org/SQL_Developm..._Builder_Links http://wiki.eclipse.org/SQB_Galileo_Work_in_Progress >> why is it only a part of eclipse framework and not included in the RCP >> Designer The SQB component has dependency on other bundles (i.e. org.eclipse.ui.ide and org.eclipse.debug.core) that are not normally packaged in a RCP application. Linda,
Thanks for the information. BIRT 2.3 has SQB shpped as prototype. I found no reference of the state being changed to production from prototype for any later release. Is the state going to change in BIRT 2.5 release or any future releases. Thanks, Anirudh |

Anirudh,
The SQB is still being label as a prototype in BIRT 2.5 release. We do find that the SQB tool is quite stable. However, any bugs that may be found with the SQB itself is dependent on limited DTP resouces available. Whether that situation will change in future releases, will be one of the factors on whether BIRT can upgrade its state. Linda |
