BIRT-ing Out Loud

I had a great time at CeBIT (although it was very busy, we barely had time to breath). We had a great BIRT event on Thursday where more than 20 people showed up and I was really impressed on how the German audience was really BIRT savvy.

This was the first time Eclipse was at CeBIT and our booth was really busy. Actually the whole open source hall was almost overrun with people.

Of course many of the people were most impressed by out BIRT Rocks! T-Shirts (see my previous post http://www.birt-exchange.org/blog/2010-03-04/birt-rocks-cebit/).

It looks like there will be four BIRT sessions at this year’s EclipseCon developer conference. The conference will run from March 22nd to March 25th in Santa Clara, California and there is still plenty of time to sign up.

 

• Jason Weathersby will teach us about the BIRT project, framework, and APIs with his session called BIRT to the Bare Metal: Framework and API
• John Ward will host a two-hour tutorial called Getting Started With BIRT
• Abhisek Sinha will show us how BIRT is used with data-driven applications in his session called Jumpstart: Making Your App Shine with Rich Reports and Visualizations Using BIRT
• … and I will show you how to customize your BIRT reports in my session called Flexible, Powerful Reports Using BIRT Scripting

If you are near Ludwigsburg Germany, stop by Eclipse Summit Europe and say hello.  The show runs Tuesday October 27 through Thursday October 29.  The BIRT Exchange team is sponsoring the conference and Mica Block is presenting two BIRT sessions.  The first, “Integrating BIRT within your Applications”, covers the various aspects of the BIRT Framework with a particular focus on the integration and extension points available in the framework.  The second session is titled “Pimp your BIRT Reports” and will cover how to add additional functionality to your BIRT reports in order to enable end-users to interact with the data and even build their own reports.

I’ll be co-presenting a BIRT session next week at JBoss World in Chicago called “Getting BIRT-y with JBoss”.  I’ll start the session with an introduction to BIRT and then talk about using the open source BIRT Viewer in the JBoss application server… and then Prakash Aradhya from RedHat will finish the session off showing BIRT integration with JBoss Tools 3.0.

For those of you attending either the JavaOne Conference or the Rational Software Conference next week be sure to stop by and say Hi.

The Rational Software Conference will be held from May 31st through June 4th in Orlando, Florida.  Be sure to stop by the BIRT Exchange booth in the Exhibit Hall with your BIRT questions. There should be a technical BIRT specialist present during Exhibit Hall hours.  I will also be co-presenting a session with Sean Wilbur from IBM called Advanced Reporting with IBM(R) Rational(R) ClearQuest(R) 7.1 and Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools.  This session will take place on Tuesday, June 2 from 10:00am to 11:00am.

The JavaOne Conference will be held from June 2nd through June 5th in San Francisco, California.  There will be technical BIRT specialists at the BIRT Exchange booth who can answer your BIRT questions… plus on Wednesday from 10:00am to Noon, Rob Murphy from Actuate will be demonstrating BIRT at the Eclipse Foundation booth.
